STAFF RETREAT AT LAKES OF GRACE
AMG-International Uganda Hosts Transformative Staff Retreat at Lakes of Grace, Muduuma
AMG-International Uganda recently held a two-day staff workshop and retreat at the serene Lakes of Grace in Muduuma, a picturesque venue surrounded by tranquil waters and lush greenery. Organized by the Human Resource Department, the retreat brought together staff from across the organization for a time of spiritual renewal, professional development, and team building.
Fruitful Service: The Heart of the Retreat
The retreat was guided by the theme “Fruitful Service,” calling staff to serve with excellence while nurturing a strong culture of prayer. Through rich biblical reflections drawn from Jeremiah 1:5, John 15:16, and Acts 17:16, participants were challenged to deepen their understanding of their calling and commitment to service.
The retreat officially opened with a powerful sermon delivered by Deputy National Director, Beyanga Vincent, who set the spiritual and reflective tone for the two days of learning and fellowship.
The Four Cs of Christian Leadership
One of the retreat highlights was an insightful session on the Four Cs of Christian Leadership, key principles that underpin effective and faithful ministry:
- Character – The moral and mental qualities that define who we are
- Conviction – An unwavering belief in the mission, emphasized by National Director Dr. Reuben Musiime
- Calling – A clear sense of God’s purpose for each individual
- Competency – The ability to execute responsibilities efficiently and effectively
These teachings were firmly grounded in scripture, including 2 Timothy 3:16, reinforcing the message that spiritual formation and professional excellence must go hand in hand.
Leadership and Management Fundamentals
Renowned public speaker Mr. David Kabiiswa facilitated a dynamic session on leadership and workplace effectiveness. His presentation explored critical aspects of organizational success, including power dynamics, individual motivation, and teamwork.
Key areas covered included:
- Strategic planning and goal setting
- People management and team building
- Emotional intelligence in the workplace
Participants were particularly inspired by his practical advice:
“Work on your passion and work on your presentation. Adjust your character to the role you have been assigned.”
His emphasis on emotional intelligence underscored the importance of self-awareness and strong interpersonal skills in ministry leadership.
Fellowship, Fun, and Team Bonding
Beyond the training sessions, staff enjoyed healthy and diverse meals, offering opportunities to connect with colleagues from different projects. The evening concluded with a vibrant campfire session filled with riddles, laughter, and storytelling, followed by an educational movie that reinforced learning in a relaxed setting.
Day Two: Mental Health and Sustainability
The second day opened with a crucial session on mental health awareness, facilitated by Professor Kabaza Jackson. Acknowledging the demands of ministry work, the session equipped staff with practical tools to support their mental and emotional wellbeing for sustainable service.
The retreat concluded with an eye-opening presentation on financial sustainability by public speaker John Walugembe. His session challenged the organization to think strategically about long-term impact through:
- Diversification of income sources
- Stable and sustainable revenue streams
- Effective donor management and relationship building
- Strategic investment
- Quality service delivery and marketing
He emphasized that “people are willing to pay more for good service,” highlighting the strong link between excellence and sustainability.
Renewed Vision for Greater Impact
As staff departed Lakes of Grace, they carried with them a renewed vision, strengthened relationships, and practical tools for leadership and service. The retreat successfully blended spiritual growth, professional development, and community building, equipping AMG-International Uganda’s team to serve with even greater fruitfulness.
